Purple-red flowers open from late spring into summer. The flowers are a good size, around 5cm across. The stems are fairly tall so can be planted in the middle or back of a border to create a level of bright colour. They are like mini Hollyhocks.

The mid green leaves are larger at the base, where they are rounded, becoming smaller towards the top of the stem where they are deeply lobed.

Sidalcea 'Purpetta' grows 60-100cm tall and 30-45cm across.

SIDALCEA CULTURAL NOTES (Sidalcea)
SITUATION:
Sidalceas grow in average to compost rich, well drained soils. They will rot if they are waterlogged. Neutral to slightly acid soil is ideal. Plant in full sun to light shade in an spot protected from hot afternoon sun. They are frost hardy.

TIME OF PLANTING:
Plant winter to spring. Plant with the crown at soil level and the roots spread evenly below. Space 30-45cm apart. Sidalcea 'Purpetta' grows 60-100cm tall and 30-45cm across.

GENERAL CARE:
Apply a well balanced fertiliser when the stems emerge in spring, then again when they are blooming. Cut the stems back to the ground once the flowers have finished. As they are short lived perennials, you should let the seeds fall before pruning. Protect from slugs and snails. Ensure there is good air flow around the plants. Water in, then keep moist when in growth.
